PSA Peugeot Citroën Aulnay-sous-Bois site (Seine-Saint-Denis) — total closure October 2013
Rationale & context
Total closure of Aulnay-sous-Bois site (3,000 jobs) announced 12 July 2012 by CEO Philippe Varin. Part of Varin's global PSA France headcount reduction plan: 11,214 jobs eliminated. Production transferred to other PSA sites. Last Citroën C3 rolled off the line on 25 October 2013. Violent social conflict — 6 months of strikes — resolved by a protocol signed May 2013 with CGT and CFDT, including a €19,700 exceptional bonus for strikers agreeing to leave before 31 May and drop their appeals. In March 2014, court annulled this protocol for 'unequal treatment'. Historical French labour law case on the question of differentiated end-of-PSE bonuses.

Severance

What employees received — legal base, supra-legal, caps
Legal / collective indemnity
This is the minimum guaranteed by your sector's collective agreement. Paid to every affected employee on top of the statutory legal indemnity.
Metallurgy collective indemnity
Underlying formula · 1/4 month per year up to 7 years, then 1/3 month beyond (slightly improved vs. legal minimum which caps at 10 years).
Supra-legal top-up
The amount negotiated by unions ON TOP OF the legal and collective minimum. Often the largest part of the package.
€19,700 exceptional strike bonus (May 2013) — RULED UNLAWFUL by Paris court in March 2014 for unequal treatment. PSA ordered to extend benefit to all employees who requested it before 16 August 2013.
Notice period
Period between the dismissal notification and the actual departure. The employee remains paid during this time, whether they work or not.
Not specified in the PSE.
Collective minimum · Metallurgy agreement (IDCC 3248) — Managers: 3 months. Non-managers: 1 to 2 months by classification and seniority.
Example — rough estimate
For a non-manager employee with 5 years of seniority and €3,500 gross/month:
Collective severance(1.25 months × €3,500)€4,375
Supra-legal severanceNot publicly disclosed

Very rough illustrative estimate. Your actual amount depends on your exact reference salary (max of 1/12 of last 12 months or 1/3 of last 3 months, bonuses included — art. R1234-4 French Labour Code), your precise status (manager/non-manager/ETAM), your hire date and your individual situation. Notes
Emblematic French industrial closure case. Announced by Philippe Varin (PSA CEO) on 12 July 2012. Citroën C3 production transferred — last C3 produced at Aulnay on 25 October 2013. 3,000 site jobs eliminated as part of Varin's global plan of 11,214 France cuts. In March 2013, unions (CGT, CFDT majority) voted to accept the end-of-conflict agreement. May 2013 protocol included an exceptional €19,700 bonus paid to strikers who agreed to leave before 31 May and drop their appeals against the social plan. In March 2014, Paris court ruled this protocol UNLAWFUL for 'unequal treatment' (bonus not paid to non-strikers). PSA ordered to extend benefit to all employees who requested it. Historical case of contested use of 'end-of-conflict bonuses' as mobilization management tool.
